Chicago has many, many excellent areas to photograph especially if you are into urban landscapes. The West Loop in particular is one of my favorite ares to explore. The combination of gritty buildings, beat up streets and colorful surroundings give you so many different textures and subjects. Last weekend while I was out and about I came down this dirty alley and I loved how secluded and worn out it was. I hadn’t quite found the angle for the shot I wanted until I came around the corner and saw this couch.

Perfect! Now I had something a little out of the ordinary that could work with the landscape. The only problem was that the sun was setting and I had a hard light directly shining into the lens.I moved around a bit and finally decided to place the sun behind the building frame in the background. It helped tone down the light a little bit but there still was too much contrast. I finally ended up using my tripod and getting 5 shots at different exposures that I would later end up converting into HDR for the final shot.
