Botched Kiss

When I first started taking pictures, I read a lot about Henri Cartier-Bresson, his technique, and how photographers should learn to choose the decisive moment when to click the shutter. To pounce when the right opportunity arises. I once went with a couple of friends on an out-of-town trip to check out an old brick church. While I was taking a picture of the bell tower, having no time to check my manual settings or the framing, I turned around and caught them kissing…well, sort of.

S!esta music festival in Hässleholm, Sweden, The swedish artists Maskinen performed with approximately 10,000 people in the crowd. I was fortunate to be in the front row and captured this shot of one of the band members.

I took this photo because I liked the guy’s hat, and he seemed to be working hard. I tried to contrast the obvious graphic elements — like the bars — with the emotion on the man’s face. The band-aid on his face provided that something extra that I’m always on the lookout for.
